Lakewood Ranch is a very active community whose citizens are very health conscious. More and more people are remaining active well past retirement age. Biking is one activity that is healthy and easy on the body but studies have shown that there has been a substantial increase in injuries (even requiring hospitalization)over the past 15 years. An astounding 81% increase in injuries were seen in people older than 45.
Try to keep your bike tuned up and check your tires and brakes regularly. We are also lucky in that we have wide sidewalks so we don’t have to ride in the streets. When riding, it is always a good idea to wear a helmet. And finally, never assume that a motorist will yield the right of way to you, or even see you. The car will always win the battle!
