Another reason to worry about arthritis and pain medications
Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons
Regular readers of my blogs are aware of my health concerns about NSAIDs (ibuprofen, etc.) because they are not good for your blood pressure, heart, stomach and kidneys. (Anyone old enough to remember ZOMAX, VIOXX, and BEXXTRA?)
Now, an article published in the journal RHEUMATOLOGY showed a significant increase in the risk of deep venous thrombophlebitis (blood clots) in NSAID users. The reason why this occurs is not clear.
I’m not suggesting that these medications be taken off the market, but rather that careful thought should be given before using them.
